WELCOME! My name is Michaela Delavan. I’m the brain behind Resident Wordsmith.
I’ve always loved words - I grew up reading dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias for fun - and now I’m lucky enough to play with words for a living! But who am I? Why hire me? I’m in my early thirties, Pisces, enjoy long walks on beaches... Kidding. I have two dogs, Kilala and Severus, and two cats, Caesar and Oscar (gotta earn that kibble!). I like to read in hammocks and drink wine on boats, which is remarkably easy to accomplish since I am based in beautiful Coeur d’Alene, ID.
I started this company as a side project while I was at university, where I also got involved in music festival production. I graduated from the University of Washington in 2011 with a Bachelor’s of English Literature. While at UW, I worked on ‘Depth’ (the campus oceanographic newsletter), where I wrote articles and profiles on oceanography professors and members of the Student Oceanographic Society, as well as drawing cartoons. I graduated from the University of Idaho in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of English - Creative Writing, a Bachelor’s of International Studies - International Relations, and a minor in Journalism. While at UI, I wrote articles for ‘Blot’ (the campus magazine), selected submissions for ‘Fugue’ (the campus literary journal), and interned at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in the Artist Relations and Student Performances departments.
Well, that’s enough about me. It’s ironic that, as a writer, I really hate writing about myself. Anyone else feel that way? I hope that you feel more informed about who I am and what we do here at Resident Wordsmith. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
